Hi Neighbors! Pancakes are an easy to make sweet treat. As the name implies, Pancakes only require a pan to make. Usually this dish is made in the morning for breakfast because the cooking process is easy. So let's talk about pancakes around the world.

US & Canada: Buttermilk Pancakes

This may sound pretty obvious, but the main difference between regular pancakes and buttermilk pancakes is the buttermilk! Most recipes for regular pancakes or pancake mixes use plain milk, while buttermilk pancakes use buttermilk instead which gives it a slightly sour taste.

Austria: Kaiserschmarrn

The name Kaiserschmarrn comes from two words combined, namely the word Kaiser which means emperor and the word Schmarrn which means scrambled or grated dish. So when combined, it can be interpreted as a dish that is scrambled for the emperor.

Finland: Pannukakku

Despite their similar name, Pannukakku has a more fluffy texture and requires an oven to cook. Every house in Finland has its own Pannukakku recipe which is certainly unique and varied.

France: Crêpes

How are crepes served in France?
In France, crepes are served with sweet fillings, such as jam, chocolate, sugar, honey, chestnut spread (crème de marrons), or whipped cream. Usually, French families would put their entire sweet pantry on the table and let everyone make their own preparations.

Australia: Pikelets

Pikelets are smaller than pancakes and are eaten in countries such as New Zealand, England, and Scotland. They are also made of milk, flour and eggs but the batter is thicker than pancake batter. Once made, the texture is heavier than pancakes.

Indonesia: Surabi

One of the typical culinary origins of West Java that has been attached to the hearts of the Indonesian people is Serabi or Surabi. This dish, which is made from rice flour and baked using a furnace made of clay, has a savory and legit taste.
